Monday, July 1st at 7:00am

In 1784, John Sutcliff attached a notice to the Circular Letter to the churches of the Northamptonshire Baptist Association calling them to prayer on the first Monday of every month that God would grant revival to their communities and that God would “spread the gospel to the most distant parts of the habitable globe”.  In response to their years of faithful prayer, God used a man named William Carey whose efforts in India as a missionary began the modern missions movement.

It is our desire as a church to follow in the footsteps of men like John Ryland, Jr. (pastor of, all things, College Street Baptist Church in Northampton, England), Andrew Fuller, and John Sutcliff who prayed faithfully for God’s Kingdom to expand.  All Christians within driving distance of Newberry are welcome to join us.

John Sutcliff has put it so well: “Surely we have love enough for Zion to set apart one hour at a time, twelve times in a year, to seek her welfare.”

See you on Monday morning!

about us

College Street is a congregation of Bible-loving, people-loving, Jesus-loving Christians who are just doing their best to follow after Jesus and to encourage one another along the way.  We cling to Jesus.  It is only through his powerful death on the cross in our place that we now live.  We praise God the Father whose architectural skills shine through the amazing blueprint of salvation that even before the foundation of the world He ordained that His Son would save us! We now live by the power of the Holy Spirit who works within us to make us more and more like our Savior.

Being a member of this church means more than mere pew-sitting, though we encourage any and everyone to do their fair share of it if they want to get a taste of what the gospel is all about.  No, membership at CSBC is so much more.  It’s about discipling one another, it’s about loving one another with a laying-down-your-life-for-the-brothers mentality, and it’s about tough, yet tender, love.  Are we perfect at it?  No way!  But were the churches at Ephesus, Philippi, or Corinth?  Every church, with all of its imperfections, wrinkles, and spots, is dazzlingly beautiful in the eyes of the bridegroom Jesus Christ who is in the process of purifying his Church with the washing of the water and the Word.  There is hope for us yet!

As a Southern Baptist church, we align ourselves with a denomination that believes each church is self-determining and self-governing.  However, we also recognize the amazing interconnectedness of the churches in the New Testament and throughout church history.  It is our pleasure and joy to associate with some amazing churches through the SBC and our local Reedy River Baptist Association for the purpose of fellowship and the advancement of King Jesus’ dominion in this world.
